“Cause here she comes. She’s the baddest, bitchin’ babe of art”

Same Circle Theatre have been announced as the engagement co-ordinators for Middle Child and Milk Presents' new tour Modest. The tour is headlining Hull Truck Theatre's Grow Festival in May 2023 before it goes on to venues in Sheffield, Leeds, London, Ipswich, Scarborough and Newcastle.

Luke Dankoff, Same Circle's Producer said 'I am thrilled that we are able to support the engagement of such a superb company and show. At it's core Same Circle is about producing queer work and widening engagement with queer stories and creatives, so to work with Middle Child to support their tour makes us very proud'

Same Circle will be supporting Modest by engaging with queer communities across the tour and widening access and opportunities for queer people to engage with Modest. Same Circle will also be liaising with schools and venues to encourage students and teachers to engage with queer work through the development and distribution of lesson plans that align with the themes of Modest.

Modest mixes music hall, theatre and drag king swagger to tell the story of Elizabeth Thompson. In 1874 Elizabeth stuns the Royal Academy with her painting, Roll Call. Five years later, she falls two votes short of becoming the first woman elected to the academy.

In between, she must shoulder the hopes and dreams of women across the country, while fighting for her place at a table full of top hats, ties and mutton chop beards.

The show is being performed by a cast that features the UK's hottest drag talent, this electrifying new play will break your heart and start a revolution.

Written by Ellen Brammar (I Hate Alone) with music by Rachel Barnes, set design by QianEr Jin and costume design by Terry Herfield, Modest is a good night out co-directed by Luke Skilbeck (Milk Presents) and Paul Smith (Middle Child).
